Anne Hathaway all the way! But I think your ranking will be:

1. Leo

2. Hathaway

3. Winslet

4. Streep

5. Jolie

I have not seen Leo, but right now I guess my pick is Streep.

Streep. Hers was the only interesting thing about that movie.

What an uninteresting year...I'll predict Winslet :)

I have to agree with Sage, it's a very average year.

Who will be my pick? Who knows...

THE DEAD ARE STILL DEAD!!!

That

Oh, I have to disagree! I thought it was a really strong year in this category! Hathaway, Winslet, Leo, and Streep all gave good performances, in my opinion, with Jolie being the only rotten apple.

What was so wrong with Angelina Jolie?

She overracted so much during her dramatic moments that her performance was not moving, it was ridiculous. Plus, she came across as very flat in her non dramatic scenes. And I thought you didn't like her either. You gave her zero stars and ranked her last in your 2008 ranking. Did you rewatch it recently?

Well, I think Anne Hathaway not only overacted throughout the entire movie, but took the easy way out, instead of making her over the topness work.

I'm not saying I like Jolie's work either, but I hardly think she's the worst of the group.

I never thought she went over the top. Yes, her character had a high energy level, but I thought she made her selfishness believable. I felt connected with her character and I thought she really got inside of Kym.

I haven't seen Jolie yet but I really don't like all her Oscar-clips ("I WANT MY SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!")

Yeah, it's too overdone and baity. I thought Anne Hathaway was able to make her dramatic scenes believable. Remember that toast scene? Jolie was never that realistic.

Well, at least Jolie was never trying to shock the audience in believing her.

One minute Anne Hathaway is sparking her trademark Anne Hathaway attitude, the next minute she's having random sex in a basement. Didn't believe one single moment of it. And then we get that scene with Debra Winger, who has the best moment in the movie if you ask me, and Hathaway brings it down by being completely shocked by why her mom is mad at her? Every moment in Rachel, is designed for the audience to be shocked by Kym's behavior. That's Oscar baiting, if you ask me.

She was shocked because her mother was attacking her. And before that, when her mom was saying that she left her son in her care because she was good with him, Kym was trying to tell her that she was not a responsible person to take care of him because she was a messed up drug addict and her mom started attacking her because she can't come to terms with her own guilt and her attacking her was expressing her anger at Kym.

I believed that Kym used her sarcastic remarks about other people and her rehab troubles to get attention and that as a result of her coming home for the wedding, she realizes that she is not the center of attention anymore.

Streep is by far my favorite, though I actually didn't mind Angelina Jolie. It's baity but it works in my opinion. I just kept getting distracted by her lips!

Oh but Kristin Scott Thomas was ROBBED of a nomination.

joe burns said...

I agree Robert. I think Scott Thomas should have been nominated. I'd take out Jolie and Streep and put in Hawkins and Scott Thomas. What did you think of Anne Hathaway?

Malcolm said...

Meryl Streep for the win!

I like all of them, even Jolie. However, Jolie suffered from the lapses of the screenplay.

I'm just about to see Leo but I really feel she would be great.

Over-all, a very strong year.
