I agree with a lot of what you say about the film overshadowing the performance, but you've certainly got me thinking about the different requirements in silent films and the intent of the film itself. I definitely need to rewatch this one. :)Derek Bowmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13276278383887354106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4953387045812787281.post-50149896855779748332013-12-15T11:54:20.180+01:002013-12-15T11:54:20.180+01:00Hi Allen, thank you very much! :-)

I agree that the part is limited and full of cliches but she was able to overcome this - at least for me. But as you said, art is subjective and I agree it's great to read the opinions of others. I can't wait to see your thoughts on Claudette and Clark in It happaned one Night!Fritzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03291268052797806635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4953387045812787281.post-63061101318282887632013-12-15T03:16:44.094+01:002013-12-15T03:16:44.094+01:00Fritz -- the detail and thoroughness in your posts...Fritz -- the detail and thoroughness in your posts never ceases to amaze me. You've remained quite an inspiration to me in this tiny world of Best Actress blogging that we live in. The amount of thought you put in your writing pushes me to do the same!

That said, I've seen Sunrise a few times now and I'm afraid I've never seen much depth in Janet Gaynor's performance. I've always felt her part was too limited in its construct to really allow her to blossom. But film analysis is objective and that's the beauty of reading other peoples' critiques and seeing differing opinions. Looking forward to your thoughts on the other ladies!Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11964977693763983338noreply@blogger.com
